Position: Analyst-Alternative Investment Department: Investments
Reports to: Manager: Alternative Investments
Purpose of the Position:
- The growing alternative investments portfolio includes allocations to unlisted Property. Private Equity and Venture Capital; Infrastructure and other developmental investments, across the globe. This designation requires strong valuation, credit and value addition skills and involves tracking the lifecycle of the various funds to ensure portfolio returns.
Key Performance Areas:
- Track the lifecycle of various funds.
- Assist manager in monitoring the global alternative investments portfolio by ensuring the various funds create value to portfolio companies and exit timeously.
- Review independent valuations before each annual report is signed off.
- Track underlying exposures and identify alternative replacement opportunities.
- Use Preqin for benchmarking and gathering capital market assumptions of various alternative investment vehicles
- Track performance to assess contribution of alternative investments to overall GIPF fund performance
- Evaluating potential investment opportunities
- Risk and compliance management
- Ad hoc activities handle ad hoc projects and internal presentations.
Job-related qualifications and experience:
- B-Commerce/Finance/Economics
- 4 years’ experience in an investment environment with at least 2 years’ experience in Private Markets
- Business Management consulting experience advantageous
- Certification in financial modelling and financial statements analysis
- Coursework/training in private equity. CA. CFA. CAIA. FMVA advantageous
The incumbent should have the following knowledge, skills and Attributes:
Knowledge of:
- Investment instruments available, understanding portfolio management. GIPF mandate, regulations 13 of pension funds act. Institutional limited partners association (ILPA) principles, private equity industry, national development plans and financial statement analysis.
Skill:
- Analytical, interpersonal, networking, report writing, presentation skills, excel, financial modelling and negotiation skills, credit & fixed income and logical reasoning.
Personal Attributes:
- Details conscious, calm disposition, conceptual, discreet, integrity, emotional and inter-cultural intelligence, work under pressure, independent thinker, service oriented, professional/exceptional business ethics, lateral thinking, performance driven and results oriented.
