GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER

QKR Namibia Navachab Gold Mine, situated in Karibib, Namibia seeks to ap­point a suitably experienced and qualified Geotechnical Engineer. The candi­date will be responsible for Geotechnical mapping, logging and kinematic anal­ysis of results to monitor stability of the environment to determine and minimize risks. To coordinate all percussion and core drilling operations according to the production schedule and to assist Geology with Geotechnical functions required for the monitoring and control and timely identification of unstable areas in the pit. The position reports to the Chief Geologist.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Review of geotechnical information (e.g. review of Fall of Ground incidents, inspections of pit walls, inspection and maintenance of equipment, notifying pit control.
• Compile reports of all monitoring and kinematic data and analysis, interpret and report all mapping, logging and inspection data, Specify results, targets and identify areas of concern.
• Ensure that Navachab Mine’s Safety. Health & Environment Management Systems are incorporated in all areas of Exploration to ensure compliance to OSHAS 18001. ISO 14001.
• Manage and supervise the daily, weekly and monthly tasks of the Geotechnical Assistants
• Take responsibility for all monitor radar information and equipment and ensure information is relayed to affected parties,
• Check all core logging and pit mapping information (joint frequencies, rock types, etc.) and records accordingly for pit slope planning.
• Supervise all functions of the drill teams (e.g.. ensure correct location, proper laydown area, data collecting and sample collation)
• Plan weep holes, piezometer and dewatering holes. Interpret information and use Geological and Geotechnical models to determine potential areas of instability as part of planning. Correlate planned pit limits with actual monthly faces, importing data onto system and plans accordingly.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Mining/Geotogy /Geotechnical Engineering
• Five (5) years in a Geotechnical environment, of which two (2) years should have been at a supervisory level
• Computer literacy – especially MS Excel and experience working on Geotechnical database systems
• Valid driver’s license
• Good organizational skills
• Independent problem solving
• Strong personality.
