Ombudsman – The Judicial Service Commission

VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Judicial Service Commission hereby invites suitably qualified and experienced persons to submit applications to be considered for possible appointment to the position of Ombudsman of Namibia.

The requirements for the position are the following:

Constitutional requirements:

• a Judge of Namibia or a person possessing the legal qualifications which would entitle him or her to practice in all the Courts of Namibia;
• The applicant should by virtue of his or her experience, conscientiousness and integrity be a fit and proper person to be entrusted with the responsibilities of the Office of the Ombudsman.

Additional requirements:

• Namibian citizenship;
• Preparedness to personally argue cases in the High Court and in the Supreme Court;
• Experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution;
• Knowledge of the United Nations Human Rights system;
• Preference shall be given to a person who has practised for a period of ten (10) years in the following areas: Administrative Law, Constitutional law, Criminal Law, Environmental Law, International Human Rights Law and Labour Law.
