Job description

Open-Pit Blasting Operations

• Read and interpretation of blast and tie-up plans
• Connect the blasting cables to the electronic delay detonators
• Prepare and position primers as required for blasting
• Control and handle Mobile Manufacturing Unit charging hose and fills blast hole with the prescribed amount of explosive charge and stemming
• Measure and note the HEF cup densities
• Operate the blast hole filler (motorised skid steer) for stemming plus other blasting equipment and tools in a safe and productive manner
• Demarcate of mining faces, drill sites and blasting sites as per standard operating procedure
• Guard against inadvertent entry to charging/charged sites and where explosives are kept, and ensures that entry is only granted when all legal requirements are met
• Transportation of flagmen and deliverance of barricading tools
• Control blasting zone access during the blasting time (flagman)
• Manning of flagmen posts to stop unauthorised entry
• Measurement and recording of drillhole depths before charging to ensure that they are of the required depth and takes corrective action where necessary
• Clearly mark holes that are to be re-drilled
• Backfilling the over drilled holes
• Remove all breakable mine property from the vicinity of the blasting site
• Switches on/off blast sirens before and after blasting has taken place
• Identify and demarcate misfires in a surface excavation

• Ensure compliance to all B2Gold Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures
• Maintain a safe working environment, and keeping the assigned work area clean and tidy

Minimum requirements

• Grade 12 NQF Level 3
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience open-pit mining blasting
• Code BE driver’s license
