POSITION: LEGAL CLERK
Paterson C2

JOB PURPOSE:
The LEGAL CLERK is responsible to provide assistance to the Head Company Secretariat and Legal Advice in areas of legal work, such as preparing legal documents, conducting legal analysis, and conducting research. The incumbent will further act as liaison between Councils’ Secretariats and the Corporate Secretary.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
– Conduct researches, analyse and prepare legal opinions on NCRST matters.
– Screen contracts for compliance to NCRST Policies.
– Prepare correspondence and legal documents, i.e. court papers, and arrange for the delivery of such paperwork.

— Conduct regular legal audits on the regulatory and governance framework of NCRST.

— Undertake searches, i.e. company’s searches and deeds’ registration office searches.

— Regularly review all relevant legislation for recommendation to the Head: Company Secretariat and Legal Advice.

— Act as liaison on behalf of the Legal Division and the secretariats of in-house Councils.

— Research and answer enquiries from committees and councils.

— Compile relevant commission documents, for distribution to committees, management and councils.

— Maintain proper records of Secretariat proceedings and resolutions.

— Follow up on the execution of commission resolutions.

— Schedule, coordinate and confirm legal dates, appointments, and meetings.

— Conduct research on legal matters.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
– Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in Law.
— Three (3) years relevant working experience.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:
– Good working knowledge of legal terminology and government regulations.
— Strong organisational skills and a meticulous eye for detail.
— Keen observation skills and a high level of integrity.
— Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
— Ability to maintain confidentiality.
— Must be a self-starter, proactive with good time management skills.
— Must be flexible and adaptable in work approach.
— Sound reasoning skills and the ability to resolve complex problems.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
— This is a six (6) months non-renewable contract of appointment. Incumbent must be available and willing to start immediately.
