The Line Haul Driver is responsible for the safe and secure transport, handling, and delivery of freight across national and cross-border routes while adhering to safety regulations and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure safe and secure, handling, loading and off-loading of consignments. Be present whilst loading and report any damages, anomalies to Supervisor/Manager prior to departure.
- Safe and secure transport of freight
- Ensure consignments are off-loaded at designated areas in a safe and secure manner and obtain the necessary proof of delivery and other applicable documents from customer.
- Adhere to procedures related to re-fueling, handling of fuel cards, petty cash, etc., in line with Company Policies.
- Complete MDC register/trip sheets diligently and ensure that it submitted timeously to manager/supervisor for calculation and payment.
- Adhere to health and safety regulations of the company and clients’ sites.
- Adhere to road and safety regulations.
- Adhere to security measures, including unpacking, inspections, quality checks, etc of freight/loads.
- Perform daily pre and post trip, vehicle inspections and reports defects immediately.
- Ensure truck and cab is clean and neat at all times.
- Ensure all fragile/fridge-line/high value consignments are handled/loaded correctly and within the company policies and procedures.
- Any other duties in line with the responsibilities of a Line Haul Driver.
Requirements
- A valid Grade 12 certificate and be older than 30 years of age.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in driving cross border.
- Knowledge of SADC routes and mechanical knowledge will be an added advantage.
- Valid Code CE Driver’s License with valid PDP and Passport.
- Police clearance certificate (not older than 3 months) – No criminal record.
- Must be efficient in delivering freight timeously and with the required care.
- Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills.
- Customer focused, be presentable and have good communication skills (Afrikaans and English).
- Sober habits.
- Namibian Citizenship.
