Description
Turipamwe is looking for Facilitators to support us in creating a leading agency in design thinking in Namibia. Your role will strengthen the department’s expertise and support Namibian corporations and organisations in realising and maximising their innovation potential.
Job Criteria: Facilitator
We are looking for Windhoek-based experts familiar with Design Thinking who deeply understand the local context (especially in the corporate realm). You may be part-time employed, running your own business or completing post-graduate studies and keen to supplement your income with part-time opportunities that allow you to grow and learn as a part of an exciting team.
As a Turipamwe freelancer facilitator, you will act as the expert called upon on a project basis to serve our Co-Creation clients. These projects can include Design Sprints for product or service development, Design Thinking Training, and/or innovation consultancies (read about our services here). Our clients range from corporations to SMEs and organisations in the public sector. Still, we occasionally apply our services to partner with entrepreneurship supporters in the Windhoek startup ecosystem. After a thorough onboarding process, your project days will involve implementing workshop experiences as a support facilitator with the potential to grow into designing and leading workshops. Depending on your profile, you may even be invited to join client meetings and use your expertise to support sales proposal development.
Your responsibilities will include:
Suitably applying methodologies, including Design Thinking, Lean Startup and Lean Service Creation, to create unique co-creation experiences to fit the varying needs of the customer
Facilitating workshops as a lead or supporter based on either your own workshop design or as briefed by a colleague
Support in the successful implementation of client projects where agreed upon (e.g. proposal development, feedback collection, facilitation venue set-up)
Support the Head of Co-Creation in project management and in developing the service offering based on customer feedback
The dreamer, thinker, maker, and doer we look for has the following skills and traits:
Understanding of design thinking principles both in theory and practice. The facilitator can explain the design thinking process and how it can be applied to create innovative services and then take a team through the process in a logical and fun way.
High levels of empathy and human-centricity with a dash of guts. We are looking for a fantastic listener who reads a room well and knows how to take charge when facilitating teamwork regardless of the team’s composition (e.g. people with prominent personalities and important titles).
Skills in providing customers with an excellent experience from the first contact to the last. You see our customers as long-lasting partnerships, understand your role as a facilitator as a critical one for after-sales, and you know how to make people feel appreciated.
A flexible and entrepreneurial attitude. You enjoy creating something new and understand the risks required to jump into something less established with a ton of potential. You understand that client projects depend on sales, and you don’t need to be comfortable with ready-made processes and systems. The Co-Creation department’s services, business model and market are still being validated. We practice what we preach and use lean methodologies to build the department, measure the activities and learn from our findings.
Ideally, you have a grasp of the following:
Training and/or facilitation experience
Management consultancy experience in the realm of strategy, innovation, and/or business development
Understanding of lean methods like Design Thinking and Lean Startup
Experience in project management, from conception to delivery
Solid organizational skills, including attention to detail, prioritizing your work and managing your time
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent internal teamwork and communication skills
We consider potential rather than solely those who tick all the boxes, as we believe in lifelong learning. We’re open to training committed talent (in fact, it’s one of our benefits, see below). We think that the following skills and traits can help you succeed in this role, so we hope that you have at least 1-2 of the below and are keen to grow in the other aspects:
Certification in fundamentals of Design Thinking (or similar)
Understanding of the value of good design when it comes to strategy and business development
Familiarity with Lean Service Creation
Experience in customizing worksheets and canvases to suit a client
Pedagogical training
Hands-on experience with digital collaboration tools like Google Drive and Slack, as well as project management tools like Asana
What we offer:
Project-based work with some of the biggest companies in the country while working with one of the most fun and creative workplaces in the country (approximately once a month starting August 2023 preceded by onboarding in July 2023)
Competitive compensation
Mentoring & Technical Backstopping
Opportunity to strengthen your facilitation skills with new methodologies like the Lean Service Creation
During a day when you are not client-facing, a casual dress code and flexibility for when, where and how you work with an option to a dedicated workstation in a Creative Environment with access to:
Google Suite of products
Internet
Laser colour printer and scanner
Library of Design Resources
Stationery
Tea and coffee refreshments
Safe parking
Opportunities to network and gain access to events through our network within the creative industry, startup and development ecosystem in Namibia and abroad
Potential to extend the working relationship to a part- or full-time position in the future based on performance and the financial success of the department
What do we ask for in return?
Shortlisted candidates are invited to demonstrate their facilitation skills at a mock-up workshop (23 June 2023, serious candidates are encouraged strongly to book this day in advance)
Successful candidates will be invited to join our pool of facilitators
Availability of at least 3-5 working days per month for client work (dependent on successful sales and client schedules)
Commitment to building the leading agency in design thinking in Namibia
