MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To perform basic maintenance of all Municipal vehicles and mechanical equipment, to
facilitate the major maintenance and repair of such vehicles and equipment through
external service providers, and to supervise, control and maintain the workshop’s
stock/materials/equipment.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Maintaining, diagnosing, troubleshoots, and repairing a range of the Council’s vehicles
and equipment fleet.
• Fault finding, repairs and replacement.
• Materials ordering for the workshop
• Record keeping of equipment inspection.
• Maintenance and repairs of vehicles, generators and earth moving equipment.
• Performs gas welding, brazing, soldering, and cutting when necessary.
• Assists with panel beating on less serious damaged vehicles.
• Assists and supervises spray painting of vehicles and equipment.
• Basic auto-electric repair on all vehicles and equipment
• Supervision of work of all subordinates and do the necessary quality control.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Grade 12
• N3 Trade Diploma in Mechanic
• At least 3 years experience in the maintenance of light and heavy machinery
and mechanical equipment.
• Experience in the repair and maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Experience in repair and maintenance of auto electrical work.
• Experience in welding and fabrication work
• Physically able Basic Mechanical Aptitude
• Driving license code CE plus PDP
