Key Purpose of the role:
The NNF has a long history of providing environmental economics services to for conservation and
sustainable development in Namibia. This has been underpinned by a long-standing relationship with
the Overseas Development Institute through the placement of ODI fellows at the NNF. As work has
grown we now have a sufficiently diverse portfolio of work to recruit a in-house Environmental
Economist to support our work in this field.
The Environmental Economist will provide technical support to the various programmatic work areas
of the NNF covering a wide range of areas, including Agriculture, Climate Change, Value Chain
Development, Combatting Wildlife Crime payments for ecosystem services and broader conservation
finance. In their role, the Environmental Economist will support both the NNF and our many partners
including Government and other NGOs in Namibia and the region.
Key Responsibilities:
• Providing technical input and support for environmental economics work conducted by the
Namibia Nature Foundation
• Provide technical input and support around conservation, climate and biodiversity financing.
• Support project development and mainstreaming of environmental economics into
proposals
• Provide support to the Technical Services Team as appropriate.
• Writing of Reports and Policy Briefs
Technical Outputs
In order to support the knowledge base and application of environmental economics. Typically, a
combination of some of the following outputs are typically expected from the expert;
• Studies and Reports on Ecosystem valuations, Natural Capital Assessments and
Biodiversity Accounting
• Carrying out cost benefit analyses
• Studies and reports into innovative financing for conservation and sustainable
development
• Design and conducting collaborative research into specific components of
environmental economics, such as valuations.
