ARCHAEOLOGIST – National Heritage Council of Namibia 1167 views

Duty Station: Windhoek
Salary grade: Grade 6

Overall Responsibilities:

Responsible for conservation and management programmes in order to ensure the preservation of heritage resources and regulation of sustainable utilisation thereof.

• Commission and undertake research in all archaeology areas for nomination and management of heritage resources
• Initiate measures for the protection and preservation of archaeological heritage resources
• Perusal and verification of heritage impact assessment (HIA) reports as part of the consent application process and periodically monitor compliance to heritage consent conditions
• Participate in the secretarial work of the Scientific Committee

Education, Experience & Competencies required:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
• Archaeology
• 5 years working experience, 2 years must be job related
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Self-motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and be able to follow instructions
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate motorized vehicles
• Post graduate degree in archaeology will be an added advantage.
